Future allergy shots show promise

To prepare for the seasonal onslaught of pollen, most allergy-stricken patients will try to find relief through nonsedating antihistamines and nasal inhalers. Many others will undergo allergen immunotherapy as a next step, receiving the estimated 60 to 90 injections necessary for each treatment period. Although allergy shots can be effective, treatment is often a time-consuming and costly process. Preliminary results for new therapies show promise and may soon offer allergy sufferers more options with fewer injections.
