Our Generation: Bridging the generation gap
"How do you do this job? What you do is so gross, but my dad says I should be an ob/gyn because you make a lot of money." How do you respond tactfully to a question like that from an adolescent patient? A few things ran through my mind as I listened to her. First, what I do is not gross. Second, I had no sleep last night because I did deliveries for my partners for which I made no money. Third, I really hate it when someone says, "doctors make a lot of money."

Best doctor...or best dad?
I have one of the most important jobs in the whole world. The responsibility is tremendous, and the opportunity to send rippling effects into society for years to come is daunting. I can't afford to miss one detail that today may seem insignificant but later may be reassessed as critical. On the other hand, the rewards are boundless and priceless. I am, of course, talking about being a parent.

What my mechanic taught me about being a doctor
